Cooking For Our Community

Massive thank you to Lancashire Post for this video – highlighting the work we are doing in Preston community at this time – May 2020

14th June 2020

We are looking at ways to gradually reduce our cooked nutritious meals offering as we start to come out of this emergency food provision and start to build independence, as opposed to dependence going forward – We want to Get Preston Cooking. We are working hard on developing a programme where we can offer a choice of fresh local produce as well as a meals list with ingredients kits, supported by online videos and recipes. Orders will be taken weekly and sourced from our usual fantastic local suppliers, with people invited to pay a suggested donation.

The purpose of this next step in meal provision is to start building independence and give people the opportunity for more choice and control over the foods they enjoy. In addition to learning new recipes and using fantastic fresh local foods.

#KindnessMatters and its been in abundance! We need to say a massive thank you to Joe Browns Egg Round Penwortham and Longton – Joe has always supported the Larder, and even more so at this time, by ensuring we have the eggs we need to make the cooked nutritious meals #CookingForOurCommunity

We were in desperate need this week for another freezer to help support our meal provision, massive thanks to the wonderful Vinyl Tap Preston for offering a freezer and to our lovely friends at Preston Community Transport for bringing it over to us ❄We put a shout out for an electrician this afternoon – and Preston you are wonderful! We have a wonderful group of truly amazing volunteers who help cook, pack bags, co-ordinate, organise, design, and so much more. Today’s volunteer shout out is to our truly wonderful volunteer drivers! We simply couldn’t do this without you!!Supporting our homeless, older residents and the vulnerable by delivering nutritious home-cooked meals.

This is from one of our volunteer drivers:
“Just delivered to a lovely old lady who is shielding alone at home. She had absolutely no idea that someone had ordered for her and as well as the 5 x frozen meals on her order, the girls had thrown in a bunch of bananas, a yogurt, a “dessert treat” and a bag of luxury chocolate. She was quite taken aback and truly grateful. I feel incredibly humbled to be welcomed in to be just a tiny cog in this phenomenal machine. You guys are doing an amazing job – you truly are Guardian Angels.”

Our volunteer drivers are phenomenal! We love working with you all!
