Do you have an interest in hospitality and catering then this exciting fully funded course may be for you? 

The Certificate in Occupational Studies for the Workplace Level 1 is a mixture of theory and practical sessions that will help you improve your skills and enhance your employability.  

The course covers the following topics: 

  • An introduction to the catering and hospitality industry  
  • Customer service in the hospitality industry 
  • Basic food preparation and cooking 
  • Food hygiene

Here at the LARDER Food Academy we provide a range of courses to groups within our Preston Community.

We are proud to work with the Preston Syrian Refugee Project and Edith Rigby House providing Food Hygiene training to help support their training and accredited skills to help towards gaining employment.

Award in Occupational Studies for the Workplace Level 1

Current Courses Available

Food Champions

Our FREE Food Champions 8 week programme trains people to deliver cookery sessions & healthy eating workshops to promote healthy and sustainable food to the public, build community food knowledge, skills and resources.  The courses cover basic nutrition and cooking skills, supporting participants to encourage others to cook and eat better. All you need is an interest in cooking and health and a desire to share your enthusiasm with other people. We are proud to have trained more than 20 Food Champions so far.

Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate

This is a compulsory requirement for people who are working in the catering industry. This is delivered over 7 hours. This include the most up to date advice for catering establishments.

Kids In The Kitchen

At this time, our Kids In The Kitchen courses have moved from being face-to-face to being delivered online. Over the Summer we provided almost 100 families with recipes, ingredients kits and online videos to cook together. Please click on the link for more information KIDS IN THE KITCHEN

Range of Bespoke Cooking/Food/Health related courses & workshops

These can be tailored to the needs of the group. We have delivered courses on budgeting, cooking for health and more. These courses have previously been delivered by the LARDER in schools, housing associations for parents and children.

COMING SOON – Introduction to Permaculture

Permaculture is a design approach based on understandings of how nature works. The word permaculture is originally from ‘permanent agriculture,’ then more recently ‘permanent culture‘.
