The Larder’s Food Champions

Come & join us and train as a Larder Food Champion!

**FREE Food Champions training starting mid August at The Eccy, Skelmersdale**

Our FREE Food Champions programme (28 hours) includes support and learning around freshly prepared food from ingredients sourced locally, understanding seasonality and nutrition.  All you need is an interest in cooking and health and a desire to share your enthusiasm with other people. We are proud to have trained more than 50 Food Champions.

The course covers

  • basic nutrition and cooking skills,
  • accessing fresh local produce
  • practical cookery and food safety
  • supporting participants to encourage others to cook and eat better.

Accredited Employability Skills and Hospitality Courses Level 1 & Level 2

*Award in Occupational Studies for the Workplace Level 1 – commencing August 2022

A mixture of theory and practical sessions that will help you improve your skills and enhance your employability **FREE for anyone age 16+, unemployed with a right to work in the UK**

The course covers the following topics: 

  • Basic Food Preparation and Cooking
  • Customer Service in the Hospitality Industry
  • Introduction to the Catering and Hospitality Industry
  • Maintenance of a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
  • Improving own Learning and Performance

Total qualification time 130 hours: Guided Hours Learning – 88 hours; Self Study – 42 hours

  • Safe, Hygienic and Secure working environment in Hospitality
  • Effective Teamwork
  • Food Safety in Catering
  • Principles of producing vegetable dishes.
  • Principles of producing poultry dishes.
  • Principles of producing bread.
  • Principles of producing cakes.
  • Principles of completing kitchen documentation.
  • Principles of the use & maintenance of kitchen resources
  • Principles of preparing meals for distribution.
  • Principles of providing a counter and takeaway service.

Total Qualification Time 160 hours: Guided Hours Learning – 98 hours; Self Study – 62 hours

Kids In The Kitchen Programme

At this time, our Kids In The Kitchen courses have moved from being face-to-face to being delivered online. Over the past two years we have provided 100s of local families with recipes, ingredients kits and online videos to cook together. Please click on the link for more information KIDS IN THE KITCHEN

Range of Bespoke Cooking/Food/Health related courses & workshops

These can be tailored to the needs of the group. We have delivered courses on budgeting, cooking for health and more. These courses have previously been delivered by the Larder in a variety of locations including schools and housing associations for parents & children.
